John has acquired more than 25 years of high-level international experience in all aspects of the intellectual property practice with a particular specialty in complex patent and trademark litigation over a broad spectrum of technologies and products. In keeping with the international scope of the firm’s work, over several decades John’s training and experience has been focused on international representations in the U.S. and abroad. Specific areas of patent related expertise include, polymer chemistry, pharmaceuticals, embedded electronic smart cards and RFID tags, automotive products, shape memory alloys, magnetically attachable eyewear lenses; computer and internet related technologies, bicycle components and toys. John has also lead numerous successful trademark representations of major consumer and publishing brands including multiple trademark and unfair competition litigations involving high-end fashion, art and culinary publications, furniture design, restaurants, internet service providers, watches, eyewear brands and many other consumer goods and services.
Education and Training:
John completed his undergraduate studies in engineering in product design with expertise in materials science, chemistry and automotive engineering. In addition to extensive litigation experience in several federal district courts across the U.S., John also has practiced with leading trial advocates before the British Bar in London, where he is also qualified as a barrister and member of the Middle Temple. His diverse and unique background has translated into an active practice in several jurisdictions, including the U.K. Patents Courts, several European courts and the European and Japanese Patent Offices. John has also been very active in the American Inns of Court movement, having assisted in developing the first Inn chapter in Manhattan (the Denis McInerney/NYCLA American Inn of Court), and the first intellectual property law Inn Chapter in Manhattan, the William C. Conner Inn of Court. He has also published articles and presented lectures in the US and abroad in several areas of intellectual property law and advocacy.
